What Patients Say About Cartilage Regeneration

I would definitely recommend this procedure (Biologic Augmented Microdrilling). As an older patient, but not old enough for a knee replacement, I came in with a lot of pain and minimal activity. As the procedures progressed I saw continuous improvement. Other than some stiffness, my mobility has increased greatly and pain has become a non-factor.”

–SM, 51 years old, LaPlace, LA

I had the cartilage regeneration surgery on my left knee in August 2014. I wake up every day so very thankful that my knee can function as good or better than my right knee. I am back playing beach volleyball at a very high level, which includes full 100% jumps for blocking, attacking and jump serving. Also, when playing defense behind the block in 2 on 2 (doubles) you must be able to react very quick...This cannot be done with a knee that has damaged or little cartilage, trust me. I played beach volleyball for 20 years and finally the pain outweighed my passion to play. I can now also do my leg workouts and walk up and down stairs without pain. This was not the case before.”

–PT, 42 years old, Baton Rouge, LA

Before this procedure, I could not walk without pain. Now, I can easily and enjoyably walk as much as I want.”

–RR, 47 years old, Baton Rouge, LA

Process is worth the wait. It takes time, but who can put a price on the things you love to do? Was able to comfortably jog for the first time in 9 years. So far so good, and I can't wait to see what the next year brings.”

–RM, 52 years old, Baton Rouge, LA

Dr. Broyles' great explanation of my illness and giving me hope that I can recover gave me strength to face this challenge. Having an osteoarthritis diagnosis at a young age is physically, mentally, and emotionally draining. I had a bone on bone kissing lesion through years of sport and activities. It was a stressful time for my family as my physical limitations impacted vacations, activities with my children and my individual ability to exercise and enjoy exercise. Dr. Broyles' technique and surgery have repaired my damaged cartilage and I am not limited by my knee. I am 15 months post op and my knee is getting better by the month. I have a bright outlook on the future and what I can do. Because of Dr. Broyles' very good explanation about my case and sincere care, my knee became bearable, and currently is not impacting my life at all.  ”

–JM, 43 years old, Clearwater, FL

Before Dr. Broyles fixed my knee, I had pain and discomfort bending my knee, taking the stairs, and moving faster than a jog. One year after my surgery I began to jog with zero pain. In less than six months of running and training, I have completed two half-marathons (my best time: 1 hour, 52 minutes) and a full marathon in 4 hours, 27 minutes. I could not have wished for better results.”

–KH, 21 years old, Vienna, VA

The surgery relieved all of my pain. After a year, the activities of the day are no strain at all. While it has been a long recovery with more to come, it's fixed my knee far beyond what I thought was possible.”

–JS, 17 years old, Baton Rouge, LA

I'm very pleased with my outcome! After having both knees done, I was able to return to work where I'm on my feet all day as a physical therapy assistant. Dr. Broyles and his staff are great and will do everything to make this process as comfortable as possible.”

–DA, 36 years old, Mobile, Alabama

This surgery has given me the opportunity to keep up with my three boys. Prior to surgery, I had pain chasing after them; today I am able to play with them pain free. I had hesitations initially, but each week I saw progression and it helped me stay positive. Dr. Broyles and his team have been wonderful throughout the entire process. I look forward to seeing how much more I will be able to do now that I am pain free!”

–HD, 30 years old, Port Allen, LA

This treatment has impacted my life and my family in a tremendously positive way. My knee feels great with no pain, no swelling and allows me to be active with my family. I am so thankful to Dr. Broyles and his team for initiating this study and enabling me to enjoy life again.”

–BG, 32 years old, Baton Rouge, LA

The stem cell injections themselves – whatever anxiety I had about it – it wasn’t a big deal or something I dreaded. At 3 months (post-operatively) I started to see a difference…by 9 months I felt really good. I am super happy with my quality of life now. I am able to play outside with my kids. I’m able to coach, demonstrate, be active and not have swelling and pain.”

–BC, 32 years old, Baton Rouge, LA

Dr. Broyles’ study completely changed my life. Prior to the surgery I suffered severe pain and locking in my knee from minimal activity. Within one year post-op, I am pain free and on my way to being normal again. Best choice of my life!”

–DT, 19 years old, Sammamish, WA

Before I had the surgery, I had a hard time getting out of bed, playing outside with my girls, plus a lot of pain 24 hours a day. Dr. Broyles and his staff took the time to explain step by step how the procedure would go as well as the recovery procedure. After surgery, I started physical therapy and the team at Hennessy PT was incredible. I took pleasure in seeing my knee progress daily and knew that within a short amount of time I would be back to my old self. It is exactly 1 year later, and I could not be happier with my decision. I would recommend the procedure, Dr. Broyles, and his staff to anyone who is looking to undergo this opportunity! It has changed my lifestyle, and I am confident it will do the same for you!”

–KA, 42 years old, Saint Gabriel, LA

At the age of 30, I had resigned myself to believing that I would never be able to lead the active lifestyle I led prior to my knee injury. Thankfully, a friend mentioned Dr. Broyles’ research study on cartilage regeneration and encouraged me to check it out. Now, it’s been a year and a half and I am amazed at what I can do now, no longer limited by chronic knee pain. Dr. Broyles and his staff were absolutely fabulous throughout the recovery process. I am so thankful to be a part of this study, which for me was life-changing!”

–CW, 32 years old, Baton Rouge, LA

Osteoarthritis runs in my family and by the age of 60, I was in constant pain in the left knee. The only option offered me was knee replacement – until I met Dr. Broyles. While the stem cell procedure is not easy, nor quick, I have seen definite improvement in my knee after 18 months. It is not back 100%, but better than before. Now the other knee is causing pain, so I may have the procedure again in the future. The stem cell procedure works better on younger people, but some older people, if their knees are not too deteriorated, who are willing to deal with the pain and rehab, have another option. I think this procedure will improve with time and experience. Someday, knee replacements may not be necessary at all. Dr. Broyles is one of the exceptional, caring physicians pioneering this new approach.  ”

–SV, 61 years old, Austin, TX

It’s very tough in the beginning. Takes a lot of time and dedication. But now 3 years after surgery I can finally run again. I can play basketball and never once does my knee cross my mind. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. It’s an amazing feeling to not constantly be in pain anymore.”

–KK, 23 years old, French Settlement, LA

The staff and their consideration to your injury is unparalleled.”

–BR, 39 years old, Baton Rouge, LA

So glad I participated in the study. There is no way I would be able to have the quality of life I have without it. My only regret is that I did not join the study sooner.”

–BE, 29 years old, Baton Rouge, LA

Before surgery with Dr. Broyles, I couldn't walk. I was limping. It was to the point where I couldn't stand a normal function anymore and it was just no way to live. Now, I can run, walk up stairs – I can run up stairs! I’m a kid again! They have opened up so many opportunities for me.”

–KM, 20 years old, Livingston, LA

I feel very privileged to be a part of this study. Although the regeneration of the cartilage has not been total, I have noticed improvements that have helped my knee function. As long as I am not doing heavy lifting, I have only moderate pain. I would highly recommend this procedure as something that is positive to one’s knee health and one’s ability to enjoy exercise once again.”
